the heartbeat

the waves lap gently at the
shore. the evening pulses blindly as the
sun begins its descent. the moon
shines bright, eagerly awaiting
the darkness; awaiting the constellations and
the many stories that are told. in
the dying embers of the day the
water reflects in
beauty. on the horizon clouds
glower, ready to pounce on a moment’s
notice. my heart beats wildly, drawn
into the exotic scene. the cheshire
moon smiles as thunder rolls
across the glassy water.
the heavens open their jaws as
a forked tongue of lightening
tastes the space between sky and
sea. another low growl
of thunder soon follows. sultry tones of
red and orange ignite the sky
and water as the sun finally
sets. the stars begin to peep out
from behind their dark quilt of night
as the lightening strikes again. the air
is thick and warm; the darkness,
refreshing. the stars begin to sing a
quiet melody, while the moon and night loudly
harmonize. the lightening and thunder
change the key every so often.
and always heard in the background,
harmonizing with the heartbeat,
is the waves gently lapping
at the ghostly shoreline.
